FROM THE CHAIR

Compelling reasons to join the Guild and for all Guild Members to be Silk Painting in 2012!

  • Spring is with us and Easter just around the corner: our dormant creative edge also revives with the first flushes of blossom, flowers and fresh green shoots.
  • The Queen’s Jubilee: maybe a scarf in red white and blue? Or come up with something totally different and truly inspirational using these colours – navy is so in fashion this year.
  • Guild members have already made their bunting contributions to this under the
  • Quilts4London scheme, so sit back and enjoy!
  • Wear Silk Day – 29th June 2012 – get all you friends and family to wear silk on this day and make a donation to the Spurgeons Charity helping disadvantaged children and families in the UK. A scarf or neckerchief is obvious; a tie for men.  Or if this is too much make small silk rose buttonholes to sell: learn how in the Journal.
  • Look! No, I mean really LOOK at everything you see and formulate your design entry into the major Guild of Silk Painters’ Exhibition at the NEC, March 2013.

Members of the Guild are kept in touch with details of events through our journal and by email or letter to Branch Contacts.  Are you silk painting but not a member of the Guild?   Look through the website and join us. If there is not a branch in your area we can help to start one – we all have great fun bouncing ideas off each other and you could too.

WELCOME TO THE GUILD

Wear Silk Day

29 June 2012

AGM
1st April 2012
An excellent meeting which started with
Leonard Thompson demonstrating some of his tips on various techniques of silk painting to make different background effects, using stencils and painting
without using gutta.
This was followed by an interesting 'Show and Tell' session by various members describing their work and how they achieved the results, including how
to make silk roses by Margaret Dunning, ready for our Wear Silk Day in June!
After a very pleasant lunch in the local hostelry, we
moved onto the serious business of the day; the AGM followed by a committee meeting, which were carried out with the usual efficiency.
Details and more photos will be in our next Journal.

The Guild of Silk Painters
is an international, non-profit making organisation,
based in Great Britain whose aim is to promote and
inspire the art of silk painting.

Membership of the Guild will provide you, amongst other benefits, with a network of fellow painters of all levels, abilities and locations to share and exchange ideas and information through the Journal and the website.

Artists often work alone and miss the stimulation that
can be gained from creative interchange. The Guild will encourage you, through your local branch, to meet
regularly with other painters for demonstrations, workshops and lectures.

There are also opportunities to showcase members' work both here in the galleries and in the Journal.
