Birmingham's Wythall Exhibition

BACK to Events mainpage

We put up our 10th Anniversary Exhibition at Wythall Library on Saturday 20th October and it was lovely to meet some of our old friends who have been members of our Branch over the years, at the Preview on Saturday afternoon. It is amazing to think that we have been running the Branch for ten years. It seems like only yesterday that three or four of us started meeting together in our homes. Once we took the plunge and hired a local hall our numbers rapidly increased. We now have a very happy, lively group of around twenty, and we meet every month (except December). We are a very hands-on group and each meeting is usually led by one of our members. We do occasionally invite others to teach us their skills. We have a close relationship with the Staffs/Shrops Branch because at one time they were part of our Branch.

We had the privilege of organising the 2002 Silk Festival and we all thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful weekend. We also have a Fun Day every year in January in order to beat the 'Winter Blues', when we meet for the whole day and have fun. We have had a variety of projects from pure silk painting to mixed media. This January coming it will be held on Saturday 26th and will be tutored by Mary Day who will be showing us how to make 'Bedazzled Book Covers' and Devored Velvet.

We have an exciting programme to look forward to next year, plus another Exhibition at Bromsgrove Library, which is in Worcestershire. We will also be doing a Craft Fair at Forge Mill Needle Museum where we had a very successful Exhibition last year. It would be nice to have more Branches in the country as at Shows we are always being asked "Is there a Branch near me?" and unfortunately there often isn't. We know from experience that a Branch can be started with just two or three people and it's amazing how quickly it grows. People want to be able to meet together to share skills and encourage each other so it's worth thinking about.
