A great big thank you to everyone who contributed to such a successful weekend at the 'Jewels in Silk' Guild Summer Show 2007 hosted by the Essex branch of the Guild.

There was wealth of talent on show in the exhibition. I'm sure everyone had their favourite pieces, but for Essex we chose as 'our best in show' pictures by Angela Carruthers who exhibited paintings from a visit to Jerusalem. Many people commented on the high standard of entries and the excellent arrangement of the display meant there was always another silk item to be seen however many times people had walked around. We had beautiful banners from branches and a delightful display of entries from the children's competition.

The Chilterns branch stand

The branch tables showed us great variety and were a welcome addition to the festival. There was so much to see and do - we had inspiring demonstrators in Leonard Thompson and Doreen Higgs. Cambridge added great interest to their branch table by demonstrating machine embroidery on silk. Our Essex Have-a-Go area was very popular - the eldest pupil was 96 and thoroughly enjoyed herself.

Isabella Whitworth's workshop

Thank you also to the tutors who gave us such an interesting time. The workshops were enjoyed by all who took part. Our thanks to Tessa Barnes, Isabella Whitworth, Sue Thomas, Mary Day and Melinda Berkovitz.Thank you to our Festival team who gave up so much time over the last two years to set up the event, to our Essex branch members and helpers and to St Albans members who helped us set up.

We had a great time at the meal and fashion show on the Saturday evening at Waterfront Place. The meal was excellent and the staff helped enormously with the smooth running of the event. We were delighted to have a wonderful selection of garments on the catwalk to round off the evening's entertainment.

Thanks also to Dawn who came down from Rainbow Silks and to Vycombe Arts and Vallejo who supported us by providing paints and gifts for the raffle. Most of all thank you to all the members from all over the country and beyond (including Christina from Greece and Jean from the Isle of Man!) who all joined us in celebrating silk painting at its best.
