NOT The Turner Prize
Many painters are tired of modern, conceptual art which shows little skill and craftsmanship in its execution. Every year large sums of money are awarded to artists who produce controversial pieces of work like the famous 'Unmade bed' or "Lights flickering on and off in an empty room". Well, last year in reaction to this a new prize was offered called "NOT the Turner Prize". It is supported by the Daily Mail and by celebrities such as Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones. There were over 10,000 entries last year. This year they have selected about 400 pieces from the entries received and these paintings and artworks will be exhibited in the Mall Galleries (near Buckingham Palace in London) this June. My daughter Jenny has had a painting accepted and although she hasn't won the £20,000 first prize she is pleased and honoured to be part of the exhibition.
