Lee Cresswell and Diane Tuckman of SPIN.

I have been in Washington DC since January 2006 because my husband was sent by the UK government to work here. I have been very fortunate to have been invited to hold workshops at the Smithsonian Institutions, a Spinning and Weaving Centre in New Hampshire, a lecture at the Textile Museum and a later this year, a Showcase at the Martin Luther King Memorial Library.

Early this year, I received an email from Diane Tuckman, Chairman of the Silk Painters International (SPIN), informing me of an exhibition SPIN is holding at The United States District Courthouse for Maryland, in Greenbelt, and inviting me to submit some of my works. This US Federal office is a very well lit atrium style building with four floors, very high ceilings and circular balconies leading to courtrooms and offices. Judge Messitte, who sits on the bench of this court, has taken on the responsibility of adding art to the building and has generously offered SPIN an invitation to exhibition silk art from July to 27 December 2007, covering the Christmas period.

This is an extract from an article by Lee Cresswell published in the Autumn 2007 issue of The Journal.
